Alex Artetxe, elected as the new president of the BASQUENERGY Cluster at the 2026 General Assembly.
The BASQUENERGY Cluster held its 2026 Ordinary General Meeting at the BEC on Thursday, 18 June, an event that also coincided with its 30th anniversary. The meeting was marked by the election of the new Board of Directors, headed by Alexander Artetxe, Chairman and CEO of the Arteche Group, who succeeds Luis Rodríguez Llopis, Chairman of IDOM, after the latter’s eight-year tenure.
After approving the accounts and the Business Plan for this year, José Ignacio Hormaeche, Managing Director of the BASQUENERGY Cluster, presented the findings of the Panorama 2025 report and outlined the measures being taken to continue boosting the competitiveness of the Basque energy industry. Following this, Araceli Fernández, Head of the Technology Innovation Unit at the IEA, explained the key points of the report “Energy Technology Perspectives 2026”. Then, Araceli Fernández and Cristina Oyón, Deputy Director-General of SPRI, engaged in a discussion in which they explored the document in greater depth and addressed how to implement its recommendations within the Basque ecosystem.
Finally, Irantzu Allende, Vice-Minister for Energy Transition at the Basque Government, brought the conference to a close by outlining the main initiatives and strategies currently being taken forward to support the sector.
