Alba takes part in the Hydrogen Caravan in Madrid with a Toyota Mirai.
Gasnam, the sustainable transport platform, has organised the Hydrogen Vehicle Convoy, a tour of various locations across the Spanish region of Madrid to showcase the advances being made in this technology in the region. The initiative, part of the European Mobility Week, involved the participation of Alba, as well as the Madrid Regional Government and Madrid City Council, represented by hydrogen-powered buses from the Regional Transport Consortium and EMT Madrid. The convoy concluded with an official ceremony at the EMT Operations Centre in Entrevías, home to a pioneering municipal hydrogen refuelling station that integrates hydrogen production, storage and supply for the bus fleet.
A new feature of the event was that it brought together vehicles from six autonomous regions of Spain, reflecting the national reach that hydrogen-powered transport is gaining and the role of Madrid as a hub for the sector. The fleet included urban and regional buses, a refuse collection lorry, the Toyota Hilux FCEV prototype and passenger cars from Toyota, Hyundai and BMW. For its part, Alba took part in the convoy with a Toyota Mirai, one of the hydrogen fuel cell models with the widest commercial uptake. The convoy visited various points along the hydrogen value chain in Madrid, including refuelling stations, logistics facilities and the renewable hydrogen plant in Arroyo Culebro, equipped with a 1 MW electrolyser capable of producing around 400 kg of renewable hydrogen per day.
The day provided an opportunity to gain an insight into the entire hydrogen value chain, from production and storage to refuelling and transport.
