MUBIL hosts the 6th meeting of the Use in Mobility Vertical of the BH2C and showcases its fuel cell, electric traction and battery laboratories.
The 6th meeting of the Use in Mobility Vertical of the BH2C was held on Wednesday, 15 October, at the new MUBIL facilities in Eskuzaitzeta, Gipuzkoa. The meeting of the Vertical, led by EVE and REPSOL, brought together 26 people from 18 member organisations.
Monica Diaz, from EVE, kicked off the day running through the latest developments in the projects and initiatives being taken forward in the Vertical, as well as the most relevant regulatory aspects of renewable hydrogen mobility in recent months. Miguel Palacio, from IBIL H2, then outlined the progress being made at the green H2 distribution logistics centre in Abanto, where construction is already underway. The centre, which is expected to become operational and make its first delivery in September 2026, will supply MEGCs to service critical points such as the hydrogen refuelling station at Bilbao airport, which is also scheduled to be operational by the end of 2026, and will also supply green hydrogen to vehicles and trucks. Furthermore, while the logistics centre is being completed, a portable hydrogen refuelling station of Calvera Hydrogen has been installed on the same site, which will enable the H2 already being produced in the 2.5MW electrolyser at the Petronor refinery to be used to start real-life testing with buses on operational routes.
Following this, José Molinero presented KINERGY FUEL CELL, a technology start-up focused on manufacturing bipolar plates of its own design, developing modular and scalable control software and designing BoP systems for hydrogen fuel cells. The Bilbao-based company aims to be the first Basque developer of complete PEM systems.
After the coffee break, Andrea Costa, from EIT Urban Mobility, spoke about their investment strategies for European companies in the field of urban mobility looking to launch their innovative products on the market. Andrea explained some of the hydrogen projects developed with funding from EIT Urban Mobility, which include solutions for urban refuelling, city buses and trains, amongst others.
Finally, Igor Villarreal spoke about MUBIL's objectives and its commitment to hydrogen vehicles. He also outlined the company's plans to continue growing and consolidating Gipuzkoa's position as a key player in sustainable mobility in Europe. After the presentations, those attending the event were invited to take a tour around the laboratories where fuel cell, electric traction and energy storage systems are tested.
