The technical workshop on ‘Non-electrolytic Hydrogen Production’ looks at different technologies, most of which have been developed by Basque organisations.
The technical workshop on ‘Non-electrolytic hydrogen production’, co-organised by the BH2C and the Energy Cluster, was held on Wednesday, 4 June, at the EIC - Energy Intelligence Center. The workshop was attended by 58 people from 33 different organisations.
The event was opened jointly by Javier Perea and Marcos Suarez, from Petronor and the Energy Cluster, respectively, after which Diego Zapater, from Tecnalia, gave the audience an overview of the different technologies currently available to produce hydrogen, focusing on the decarbonisation of traditional processes used for this purpose to date. Jon Meléndez, from H2SITE, then talked about the metal membranes for ammonia cracking being developed by his company, showing how they can be used in totally different projects. For their part, Alfonso Corbella, Javier Llabrés and Jesús María Lata, from Sener, presented two technologies they are currently working on: autothermal ammonia cracking and microwave-based hydrogen production.
After a coffee break and the opportunity for all those present to network, Ana Almeida, from Repsol, gave a presentation on gasification technology and the Ecoplanta project, which recently received an Innovation Fund grant from the European Commission for large-scale projects. This was followed by an online presentation by Irene Yuste, from the Norwegian company CoorsTek, the technologists behind the CARMA-H2 project coordinated by AIN (Industrial Association of Navarre). During her presentation, in addition to giving some background on the afore-mentioned project, she also presented the bioPMR (Protonic Membrane Reactor) technology. Finally, Iker Aguirrezabal, from the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), presented the CATART project and the photocatalysis technologies they are researching to produce relevant compounds.
Once the presentations had been concluded, a series of B2B meetings were held where those attending the event had the opportunity to explore synergies and possible collaboration with the speakers at the workshop.
