H2SITE chooses Bergen as a strategic platform to launch its maritime hydrogen solutions.

H2SITE has chosen the city of Bergen, Norway, as a strategic operational base from which to accelerate the large-scale commercial adoption of its on-board hydrogen technologies. The solutions developed by the Basque start-up enable on-board hydrogen production for propulsion and auxiliary power systems with no direct CO₂ emissions. The technology is designed to prevent ammonia losses and to optimise energy efficiency in maritime applications.

In this context, H2SITE is currently preparing a new pilot project in Norway focused on demonstrating continuous hydrogen production on board PSV vessels operating along the west coast. The project aims to validate the company's 2 MW ammonia-to-hydrogen conversion system under real maritime conditions, in collaboration with regional shipowners and technology partners. The success of this Norwegian pilot project will be key to scaling up commercial deployment and establishing Norway as one of the first markets to adopt a large-scale on-board cracking system.

The company is looking to leverage the maritime ecosystem, public funding mechanisms (Enova SF, Innovasjon Norge and other local sources) and local players specialising in maritime decarbonisation solutions in the Bergen area. The Norwegian port and technology environment offers ideal conditions for deploying and validating real maritime solutions, with plans in place to move towards commercial deployment in this context. By doing so, H2SITE aims to consolidate its commitment to efficient and cost-effective hydrogen production at sea, strengthening collaboration with sector stakeholders and contributing to the roll-out of hydrogen solutions in emerging markets for the international decarbonisation of maritime transport.
