Tres Sesenta Gases, a company part-owned by the Fagor Ederlan group, is working alongside Mondragon University on the ZEH2OPS (Zero Emissions Hydrogen On-Shore Power Supply) project to develop an innovative power generation system based on hydrogen fuel cells for on-shore applications in ports. The project, part-funded by the State Ports Authority under the Ports 4.0 program, aims to supply up to 1 MW of power to vessels at berth, eliminating local emissions and reducing the environmental impact of port operations.
The initiative will experimentally combine fuel cells, batteries and power electronics in a test bed, enabling their performance to be validated according to the different energy profiles of the vessels. The tests will be conducted at the facilities of Mondragon University.
The system, designed as a flexible and scalable solution, will complement and provide back up for the power grids. ZEH2OPS is looking to meet the energy needs of ports in situations of grid saturation or lack of electrical infrastructure, with zero emissions and noise.
