Enagás begins the environmental permitting process for three sections of the H2med project, including the interconnection with France.
Enagás has begun the environmental permitting process for some of the most ambitious renewable hydrogen projects in Spain, including the BarMar interconnection project to connect Barcelona with France across the Mediterranean Sea. The company has formally submitted the relevant documentation for BarMar, as well as for several key sections of the future hydrogen backbone that will run across the country, to the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge.
The BarMar project forms an integral part of the H2Med corridor, a key infrastructure for transporting green hydrogen from the Iberian Peninsula to north-western Europe. This 455-kilometre-long subsea pipeline, with a maximum capacity of two million tonnes per year, will have a 140 MW compression station in Barcelona.
In addition to BarMar, Enagás has also begun the permitting process for other essential sections of the hydrogen backbone, namely the Montesa-Cartagena section, which crosses the autonomous regions of Valencia and Murcia, and the Reocín-Arrigorriaga section, which connects Cantabria with the Basque Country. These sections form part of a network that will connect 13 autonomous regions and more than 500 municipalities, consolidating Spain as a strategic hub in the future European hydrogen network.
Meanwhile, Enagás has also recently been named the world's best company for gender equality in the utilities sector, according to the 2025 annual ranking compiled by Equileap, a company that promotes gender equality, diversity and inclusion in the corporate world. Equileap has awarded Enagás its Gold Seal, given to the eight companies that have obtained the highest global rating in their respective sectors, after assessing more than 6,000 companies against 19 criteria, including gender balance at all organisational levels, equal pay and work-life balance, measures to promote gender equality and commitment, and the promotion of transparency and accountability in this area.
