The Port of Bilbao Decarbonisation Hub, the application of quantum computing and power generation from floating wind turbines: key topics at the latest meeting of the BH2C Production Vertical.

The 6th meeting of the Production Vertical of the Basque Hydrogen Corridor was held on Thursday, 25 September, at the EIC - Energy Intelligence Centre. The meeting, led by Enagas Renovable and Petronor, brought together 54 people from 28 organisations that form part of this Vertical.

To begin the meeting, Javier Perea, from Petronor Innovación, provided an update on the latest developments of the projects and initiatives in the Vertical, as well as the most relevant regulatory aspects relating to renewable hydrogen production in recent months, and more specifically the publication of the draft terms and conditions of the third auction of the European Hydrogen Bank.

After this, Iñigo Fernandez, from Basque Hydrogen, outlined the progress being made in the Port of Bilbao Decarbonisation Hub, where a 10 MW electrolyser is being installed to supply renewable hydrogen to the synthetic fuel demonstration plant being built by Synkedia Biscay, as well as to the Petronor refinery and the future Abanto-Zierbena hydrogen refuelling station.

After the coffee break, Alfonso Corbella and Alfonso Acuñas, from Sener, and Iñigo Pérez, from Ayesa, explained their joint project on the application of quantum computing in the hydrogen sector. The technology developed by these two companies has the capacity to solve complex hydrogen production optimisation problems with fewer resources than classical computing, significantly reducing execution time. Finally, Anabel Castro, from Saitec Engineering, presented the OFFSH2ORE WIND project for research into the process of producing renewable hydrogen offshore on a floating wind platform. The project is looking to develop an innovative system for producing renewable hydrogen on the SATH floating wind platform for refuelling hydrogen-powered vessels and the production of marine fuels.
