Nordex Electrolyzers unveils its 2.5MW electrolyzer, the largest of its kind fully designed and manufactured in Spain.
Nordex Electrolyzers has unveiled its NX2500 pressurized alkaline electrolyzer at its testing facility in Lumbier, Navarra, at an institutional event attended by more than fifty representatives drawn from the energy, government and business sectors. The new NX2500 has become the largest electrolyzer fully designed and manufactured in Spain.
With a nominal power of 2.5 MW, the NX2500 is capable of producing more than 45 kg/h of green hydrogen using electricity from renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power. The system uses pressurised alkaline electrolysis technology, a robust, highly durable solution (more than 80,000 hours of service life) that requires little maintenance. Its main innovative features include its modular and scalable design, enabling up to four 2.5 MW units to be combined to achieve configurations of 5 MW and 10 MW, and its mechanical and fluid dynamic optimisation, minimising energy losses and maximising power conversion. The company estimates that the new system will significantly reduce the cost of producing renewable hydrogen and help improve competitiveness against fossil fuels.
The new product has a 5 times greater capacity than its predecessor. Its validation in Lumbier meets the milestones set out in the IPCEI Hy2Tech program, the major European project of common interest for the promotion of green hydrogen, and consolidates Navarra's position as one of the leading technology hubs in the European energy transition.
The event was attended by María Chivite, President of the Government of Navarra; José Luis Blanco, CEO of Nordex Group; Mikel Irujo, Minister of Industry and Ecological and Digital Business Transition of the Government of Navarra; Iñaki Larraya, Managing Director of Sodena; and Luis Solla, Managing Director of Nordex Electrolyzers. During the event, the authorities were able to see the equipment up close and check its operation at the test plant, designed as a validation bench for green hydrogen production technologies.
