Mikel Amundarain, General Manager of EVE, appointed Vice-President of the European Federation of Agencies and Regions for Energy and the Environment.

The General Assembly of FEDARENE (European Federation of Agencies and Regions for Energy and the Environment) has appointed Mikel Amundarain, General Manager of the Basque Energy Agency (EVE), as its new Vice-President for the next three years. Mikel Amundarain's candidacy was chosen by a majority vote of the representatives of the 80 agencies that make up FEDARENE, with a focus on highlighting the opportunities for competitiveness that the energy transition represents for the industrial sector and infrastructure.

After making all of EVE's technical expertise available to European regional agencies, the new Vice-President of FEDARENE highlighted the opportunity that this position represents "to strengthen the international presence of the Basque Country and engage in direct dialogue with the European Commission on strategic issues". Mikel Amundarain has particularly welcomed the appointment given the current scenario "characterised by an increasingly unstable and uncertain international environment and growing regionalisation. We believe that a strong Europe will help the Basque Country to become more robust in the energy transition and contribute to the competitiveness of our industry".

FEDARENE currently has 80 members from 24 countries in the European Union. The Basque Energy Agency was one of the six European regional and/or provincial energy agencies that founded FEDARENE in 1990, with the aim of promoting and fostering cooperation and the exchange of experiences between agencies and regions, as well as representing and defending regional energy policies before European institutions.
