The European Union renews the PCI project status of H2med, in which Enagás is working.
The members of the H2med consortium welcome the announcement of the renewal of PCI project status for the cross-border corridors BarMar (Barcelona-Marseille connection) and CelZa (Celorico da Beira-Zamora). The aim of this initiative is to build gas pipelines to transport hydrogen from the Iberian Peninsula to offtake centres in Central European countries.
The renewal of PCI status for BarMar and CelZa validates the maturity of these projects, and is confirmation of the significant progress already achieved. Furthermore, the renewal of key infrastructures such as Hy-FEN, together with the inclusion of HySoW and MidHy, reinforces H2med's ambition to become a truly comprehensive and resilient hydrogen backbone. This collective success is also underlined by the recent expansion of the H2med Alliance and its commitment to accelerating the European energy transition.
The list also includes the projects ‘H2 storage North - 1’ and ‘H2 storage North - 2’, for underground hydrogen storage in Cantabria and the Basque Country, respectively. These projects are also part of the H2med corridor for seasonal storage to complement the European energy system.
The European Commission has published the new list of Projects of Common Interest (PCIs) / Projects of Mutual Interest (PMIs) for 2025. This is the second update since the reform of the TEN-E Regulation in 2022, which directs investment towards energy infrastructure compatible with climate objectives. In total, 235 projects have now been designated as such, granting them regulatory priority, fast-tracked licensing and the possibility of accessing funding from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF-Energy).
