The BH2C and the EIC welcome a delegation from Fukushima.
A delegation from the Fukushima Prefectural Assembly, Japan, has recently visited the Basque Country for a week on an institutional mission organised by Basque Trade & Investment (BasqueTrade), the agency for the internationalisation of Basque companies that forms part of the SPRI Group.
As part of the agenda of the mission, the delegation visited the Energy Intelligence Center (EIC) on the Abanto Campus of the Basque Country Technology Park, to learn about the BH2C. The visitors were welcomed by Joseba García, General Manager of the EIC, who outlined the centre's strategy for taking forward hydrogen-related projects. Other speakers included Asier Madariaga, from Petronor/Repsol, who explained the objectives and initiatives of the BH2C, and Arturo Fernández, who talked about the ecosystem and hydrogen projects promoted by Petronor, addressing industrial and technological advances in renewable hydrogen and its role in the energy transition.
The aim of the visit was to advance economic, industrial and technological collaboration between the two regions and to work on the contents of the renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) scheduled for January 2026. The Fukushima delegation also learned about the flagship initiatives of the Basque ecosystem linked to industrial and technological development, and the BIND 4.0 programme, an open innovation platform between start-ups and industrial companies. In addition, representatives from the Basque Business Development Agency (SPRI) and BASQUENERGY Cluster outlined the key lines of action of the Net Zero Basque Super Cluster in hydrogen, renewable energy and net-zero technology projects.
