The 7th meeting of the T&D and Storage Vertical of the BH2C highlights the importance of European collaboration in hydrogen projects.

The 7th meeting of the T&D and Storage Vertical of the BH2C was held last Tuesday, 17 March, at the EICEnergy Intelligence Center. The meeting of the Vertical, led by Nortegas, brought together 32 people from 24 member organisations.

Izaskun Gorostiaga, from Nortegas, began the day by running through the latest developments in the projects and initiatives being taken forward in the Vertical, and the most relevant regulatory developments in the field of hydrogen transport and distribution in recent months. Tatiana Block, from New Energy Coalition, then gave an update on the Heavenn hydrogen valley in the Netherlands, an initiative which integrates various production, transport, storage and end-use projects into a large-scale hydrogen ecosystem.

After the coffee break, Guillermo Garcia-Miguel, from H2SITE, presented the project the start-up is taking forward alongside SNAM for the separation of hydrogen at low concentrations from the Italian natural gas system. As part of this initiative, H2SITE has designed a Pd alloy membrane separator capable of extracting high-purity hydrogen from blending concentrations of 2% to 10%. Finally, Nicolas Larrosa, from Tecnalia, explained the phenomenon of embrittlement, caused by the interaction of hydrogen with metallic materials. Nicolas highlighted the importance of continuing to study embrittlement, as well as the factors that contribute to this type of fracture and the safety measures to be taken into account.
