The 6th meeting of the T&D and Storage Vertical of the BH2C focuses on 3 Basque collaborative research projects.
The 6th meeting of the T&D and Storage Vertical of the BH2C was held on Friday, October 17, at the EIC - Energy Intelligence Center. The meeting of the Vertical, led by Nortegas, brought together 34 people from 19 member organisations.
Izaskun Gorostiaga, from Nortegas, kicked off the day running through the latest developments in the projects and initiatives being taken forward in the Vertical, as well as the most relevant regulatory aspects regarding hydrogen transport and distribution in recent months. Daniel Cuadrado, from Nortegas, then explained the goals of the H2Bidea project to roll out new 100% hydrogen distribution networks. As part of this initiative, hydrogen valley models will be developed, research will be conducted on the behaviour of different materials in an H2 environment, and a 100% hydrogen test loop at 30 bar will be set up at the Abanto Technology Park.
After the coffee break, Gurutze Arruebarrena, from Mondragon University, shared the latest advances and results of the H2MAT+ project, the aim of which is to develop knowledge, capabilities and robust methodologies for the production and characterisation of metallic materials for use in hydrogen service conditions. The consortium also hopes to continue researching these materials and develop solutions to minimize their embrittlement.
Finally, Iñigo Santamaria, from TEAM, gave a presentation on the H2SALT project for the development of underground hydrogen storage solutions in salt caverns. This initiative is looking to gain a better understanding of the characteristics of salt formations and the mechanical and design requirements for hydrogen storage in them. After completing the experimental tests, the consortium members will also prepare a technical-economic model and develop conceptual designs for the cavern, the injection and extraction systems and auxiliary systems.
