Teresa Ribera, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, meets with the CEOs of the H2med European corridor consortium for an update on the project's progress.

Teresa Ribera, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for a Clean, Just and Competitive Transition, has met in Brussels with the five CEOs of the H2med consortium: Arturo Gonzalo (Enagás, Spain), Pierre Duvieusart (Deputy CEO of NaTran, France), Thomas Hüwener (OGE, Germany), Rodrigo Costa (REN, Portugal) and Carolle Foissaud (Teréga, France), who briefed her on the progress of the H2med green hydrogen corridor project.

At the meeting, the Vice-President learned first-hand about the progress made in developing this infrastructure, which will be key to meeting the EU's decarbonisation targets and will cover 10% of European hydrogen consumption from 2030 onwards. The representatives of the H2med consortium expressed the need to maintain support for hydrogen and to give visibility, as soon as possible, to the regulatory framework in this area to be able to make investment decisions at the right time.

The consortium partners also announced an important milestone for H2med: the signing of the Grant Agreement for the Projects of Common Interest (PCI) BarMar (Barcelona-Marseille) and CelZa (Celorico da Beira-Zamora).

The signing of this agreement, which follows the announcement made in January by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA), will enable the consortium to receive 28.3 million euros to finance engineering studies for the BarMar project, including marine and environmental reconnaissance campaigns, and a further 7.2 million euros for the basic and detailed engineering phases of the hydrogen pipeline and associated compression station in CelZa.
