The Principality of Asturias approves the Environmental Impact Statement for HyFive's Musel Green Met project.
The Ministry of Mobility, Environment and Emergency Management of the Regional Government of the Principality of Asturias has published in the Official Gazette of the Principality of Asturias the positive resolution of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Musel Green Met project of HyFive. With this project, the company plans to build a plant for the production and storage of e-methanol from renewable hydrogen in the port of Gijón, Asturias.
The plant will produce 100,000 tonnes of green methanol per year to help decarbonise hard-to-abate sectors, preventing an estimated 175,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, with a 50 MW electrolyser and CO2 capture capacity. HyFive has announced a 250 million euro investment for the construction of the Musel Green Met plant, with which the company is looking to promote the decarbonisation of maritime transport, of aviation and of the chemical industry.
In the resolution published in issue 236 of 9 December 2025, the Government of the Principality of Asturias details the conditions and requirements with which HyFive must comply to move forward with the project. The detailed engineering of Musel Green Met shall be reviewed under the guidelines published in the Official Gazette of the Principality of Asturias.
