The Energy Cluster organises a technology tour around the unique hydrogen infrastructures of the Basque Country.

Within the framework of the European Hydrogen Energy Conference (EHEC) 2024, held this year at the BEC in Bilbao, the Energy Cluster organised on 5 March two parallel tours of the unique hydrogen infrastructures in the Basque Country.

In the course of the tours, the University of the Basque Country showcased its hydrogen generation and permeation laboratories; Ingeteam presented its range of rectifiers for electrolysis and provided those present with a tour around its power electronics laboratory; NortegasH2SITE and Tecnalia gave a guided tour of the H2SAREA facilities and infrastructure; Tecnalia opned the doors of its membrane and hydrogen laboratories; ABC Compressors showcased its products for use with hydrogen and demonstrated the full extent to which its different compressors have been developed; and Tekniker gave a guided tour of its many facilities, such as the PVD coating laboratory, the hydrogen laboratory and the manufacturing and assembly workshop.

In the afternoon, the 40 attendees had the opportunity to visit different unique hydrogen facilities in the EIC - Abanto Technology Park, including the Calvera Hydrogen portable hydrogen refuelling station and the fuel cell that Protio Power has set up next to the EIC, and which will be supplied with the hydrogen produced at the Muskiz Industrial Complex.

The attendees also had the opportunity to visit the Petronor refinery, where they could see at first hand the 2.5MW electrolyser that has been installed as the first major milestone for the BH2C in the roll-out of hydrogen production.
