Jordi Hereu, Minister of Industry and Tourism, visits the Petronor plant.

Jordi Hereu, Minister for Industry and Tourism, has visited the Petronor plant to learn first-hand about Petronor's new projects and the strategic plans of the Basque Hydrogen Corridor (BH2C).

Petronor is in a process of transformation towards becoming a decarbonised 21st century refinery, with processes designed to enable the production of 100% renewable fuels by incorporating organic waste such as used vegetable oils and waste from biomass and the agri-food industry. Currently, 10% of all fuels produced at Petronor is from renewable sources, a figure that will progressively increase. The Minister was also briefed on the synthetic fuels plant project which, with an investment of more than 100 million euros, will be commissioned in the Port of Bilbao.

With regard to BH2C, Petronor's 2.5 MW electrolyser, in operation since last October, is currently producing the first green hydrogen in the Basque Country, which, in turn, is providing an insight into the use of this fuel in mobility at the Energy Intelligence Center facilities in the Abanto Zierbena Technology Park.
