Borja Martin outlines the key aspects of the FID for Petronor’s 100 MW electrolyser at the RENMAD Hydrogen webinar.
On Tuesday, 9 June, in a RENMAD Hydrogen webinar entitled “How green hydrogen projects can reach FID in Europe”, Borja Martin, a hydrogen project engineer at Alba Emission Free Energy, spoke about how Petronor successfully reached the final investment decision (FID) for its 100 MW electrolyser at its Muskiz refinery. During his presentation, Borja outlined the decarbonisation strategy of Petronor and Repsol, as well as the hydrogen initiatives currently planned or already being taken forward on the Iberian Peninsula by both companies. Those attending the webinar were given an in-depth insight into Petronor’s 100 MW electrolyser project and the role of the BH2C as a link between supply and demand for hydrogen in the Basque Country. A hydrogen demand of 67 kta has been identified, 80 per cent of which is within a 40-kilometre radius of the refinery and aligned with the Hard-to-Zero initiative, which significantly reduces the uncertainty surrounding this project. Borja highlighted the importance of collaboration across the entire ecosystem, public funding, the mitigation of technological risks and progress in regulation and certification in reaching the FID for these projects.
