The BASQUENERGY Cluster publishes a report on the main conclusions drawn from the mission to the Netherlands and from the World Hydrogen Summit.
For the fourth consecutive year, the BASQUENERGY Cluster has coordinated the participation of 17 Basque organisations at the World Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition 2026 (WHS 2026) at a joint stand. This year, the aim was to add value to the organisations' presence at the event by organising a business mission to the north of the Netherlands, organised in collaboration with the BH2C. On 18 and 19 May, the delegation visited some of Europe’s most advanced hydrogen projects and infrastructure, currently under development within HEAVENN, the first major hydrogen valley funded by the European Commission through the Horizon 2020 programme.
In its report on the mission and participation in WHS 2026, the BASQUENERGY Cluster confirms that the hydrogen sector has entered a phase of maturity in which the focus is shifting from announcements of large future capacities towards effective project delivery. Key international players agreed that the main challenge today no longer lies so much in the availability of technology, but rather in the creation of firm demand and bankable business models that will enable final investment decisions to be accelerated.
Furthermore, the report highlights the overall high degree of satisfaction, both in terms of the organisation and the interest generated by the event, expressed by the companies participating in the international mission. One of the most highly rated aspects of the mission was the visit to the HEAVENN hydrogen valley. Participants particularly highlighted the quality of the programme, the networking activities and the logistics and coordination of the mission. The technical visits were seen as a highly valuable opportunity to learn about leading projects in Europe.
