SIRIO-H2: Inference, Response and Operational Integration System for optimum control in green hydrogen production.

Project description

As the cost of hydrogen (LCOH) depends strongly on dynamic efficiency, electrolyser degradation and energy price volatility, operating costs need to be optimised by reducing CAPEX and containing OPEX.

Our technological proposal is based on optimal control methods, which provide predictive and adaptive strategies by adjusting setpoints in real time to minimise consumption, ramping and wear, increase availability and capture better market prices, thereby improving arbitrage margins. We also have a platform under development that streamlines interaction with the algorithm: it integrates SCADA data with a market and renewable production forecasting module, evaluates strategies and provides performance metrics as well as operational reports. The ability to configure hardware parameters within our solution makes it possible to study different operating, maintenance and expansion scenarios, thus offering a key enabling tool in the design and development phase. In addition, the platform includes an assisted design mode with free parameters that the algorithm tunes to explore a broader solution space and size the facilities according to technical and economic criteria.

The project aligns with other strategic deployments in the Basque Country and catalyses integration with local renewables, grid stability, functional safety and regulatory compliance, offering a concrete pathway to accelerate the competitiveness of regional renewable hydrogen across its value chain.
