Project description
The FeXI project proposes the use of renewable energy and green hydrogen as the main carriers to achieve the decarbonisation of the industrial sector. The project will reduce the indirect CO2 emissions produced when generating energy for power consumption in the iron and steel process, by replacing them with renewable power generation.
A 40MW electrolyser will be developed for the joint production of hydrogen and oxygen locally. The energy used in the process of producing hydrogen will be exclusively from renewable sources (50MW installed solar and 100MW installed wind capacity), thus ensuring that the entire process will be performed with zero GHG emissions.
The project will promote power plants which run on renewable energy, with a particular focus on technologies such as solar, PV and wind.

Impacto medioambiental
In addition to direct and indirect CO2 reduction, this project involves renewable power generation using high efficiency photovoltaic panels and wind turbines to produce green H2, which will serve as the main source of heat in reheating furnaces and electric arc furnaces, and thereby replace natural gas.
