Sarralle updates on the latest developments in the H-ACERO project at Steel Tech 2023 in Bilbao.

During the international Steel Tech Congress held in Bilbao, where steel, technology and innovation come together, Sarralle had the opportunity to present the H-ACERO project.

Led by Sarralle, the project aims to contribute to the decarbonisation of the steel sector, using hydrogen as an alternative energy source at various points in the steel production process.

Eleven other Basque companies and organisations of reference in the sector are participating in this project alongside Sarralle, namely: Aceralava - Tubacex Group, Arcelor Mittal Olaberria-Bergara, Calcinor - Kelsen, Insertec, Nervacero - Celsa Group, Nippon Gases, the Siderex cluster, Sidenor, Tubos Reunidos Group, and the Tecnalia and Ceit technology centres.

The project has four activity areas: one focused on the development of advanced equipment; another focused on consumables, such as the refractory; a third on the fuel source itself (H2); and finally, an area related to the production process. In addition, as a final phase, small-scale prototype demonstrators are being built to validate the different designs developed throughout the project.
