Project description
The aim of this project is to develop emission-free transport vehicles that meet existing market needs for sustainable and zero-emission transport, and which contribute to decarbonisation targets.
To this end, the CAF Group proposes to develop:
1. Propulsion systems based on hydrogen cells and batteries.
2. Trains that can operate with these systems.
Essentially, the vehicles to be engineered by CAF will be capable of operating with both hydrogen and electricity from the catenary (bi-mode train). This approach is aligned with the European Hydrogen Strategy and with the objective of the Spanish hydrogen roadmap.
Descripción | Período | Capex (M€) |

Impacto medioambiental
Although CAF's project does not include the production of renewable hydrogen, it does include its consumption, and is clearly linked to the commitment to decarbonisation. All this falls within the framework of a circular economy model. CAF promotes the circular economy of the railway system by analysing, from the initial design phase, the recycling and reuse of the components associated with the vehicle after its useful life.
